If you are in Riverside and looking for something to do between November and January that will put you in the holiday mood, there’s no better event than the Riverside Festival of Lights. This is a popular event in the area that attracts both locals and tourists to the area during the end of year.

The event just celebrated its 25th year anniversary in Downtown. The event is presented by the Mission Inn Hotel and Spa, allowing people to see a great display of lights and designs, welcoming guests from all around for this experience.

In addition to decorative lighting, there is live entertainment and various other goodies during the event. It has been a tradition in the area for many generations, enjoyed by many residents in Southern California. Some of the attractions presented include:

  • Lighted Displays

Both the Ben Franklin Stage and University Stage present live music and dancing located across from Santa’s house.

New Year’s Eve Celebration

You can bring in the new year with the yearly New Year’s Even Celebration, which is a free family friendly event of music, piñata’s, activities, and of course the confetti celebration to create fun memories for couples or families.

Nightly Entertainment

If you want family friendly entertainment, there are two stages of live music each night that presents both professional talent and the best local talent.

The Metropolitan Museum Plaza and Library Plaza have street performers, located on Mission Inn at Orange St.

Artisans Collective

This innovative arts market is a popular part of the event for art lovers. It allows the community to buy original artwork by local artists, which helps to keep the local community. It is also a great way to take part in free public art-based workshops and hear local musicians.

Horse Carriages

Are you looking for a romantic evening with your partner, or want to create memorable times with your whole family? The horse carriages are a popular way to do either of these. It allows riders to enjoy both the sound and sights of the festival. There are three pick-up and drop-off locations occurring daily through the event.

Colorful Vintage Carousel

This is another way to enjoy time with friends and family, and is among one of many rides available. Rides are $5 each, or $20 for a 1-day wristband.

Century Wheel

If you’re not afraid of heights, the Century Wheel is a great ride to take with a partner and get an amazing, unforgettable view of Riverside and the Festival of Lights!

Merry Bears Ride

Great for kids, the Merry Bears can be spun around while sitting in. Of course, adults can have fun trying to see how fast they can spin around as well.

Trackless Train Rides

This is a fun activity for both kids and adults as it allows you to ride around and see the event, and they are ADA accessible too.
