Journey to Riverside County located in California to La Quinta, one of the best resort cities in the United States. It is located within the Coachella Valley that is located between Indio and Indian Wells. According to the 2010 census there were around 40,000 people living there. La Quinta is also considered to be the best gold destination according to the Robb Report. The Quarry at La Quinta which is a golf course that was designed by Tom Fazio is within the top 100 courses within the whole United States. It was during 2008 that at Silver Rock Golf Resort, that the Arnold Palmer Classic had become a course to help host the Classic PGA golf tournament by Bob Hope & Chrysler. Then there is the La Quinta Resort and Club which is where director Frank Capra wrote Lost Horizon.

It was during the late part of the 19th century and part of the early 20th century, between 1880 to 1920, that the agriculture had developed within East Valley and La Quinta by using premodern techniques such as mountain water run off or open water springs for irrigation and modern irrigation techniques. It was during this time that the federal and California land surveyors had declared that the sand dunes were uninhabitable and that only the ground of hard rock within the Marshall Cove would hold any potential for residential development and farming.

Then during 1926, the La Quinta Resort was established by Walter Morgan within the northern part of Marshall Cove as a type of hideaway that was secluded for Hollywood socialites and celebrities. The resort was part of the first site for the first golf course within Coachella Valley, which coincided with the paving and construction of State Route 111 during the 1930s. The overall further expansion of Washington Street during the 1950s and into the 1960s had connected La Quinta to US Highways 99 and 60, which would become Interstate 10 during the 1970s.

When the nearby desert cities had grown to capacity, the growth of La Quinta had really grown during the 1980s, which led it to being incorporated as a city as part of Riverside County during 1982. It was between 1980 to 1990 that the population had grown from 4200 to 12,000 during the early phases of residential growth. It was mainly just a part time community until around the 1990s.

The biggest feature within the La Quinta area will be the Santa Rosa Mountains. Many people who journey to the Disney Adventure Park that is Anaheim as well as EPCOT at Disney World Resort located in Florida will see a brief glimpse of the foothills of the Santa Rose Mountains as part of the park’s attractions which are Soarin’ Over California. Within a segment called Palm Springs for Soarin’ Over California was shot in La Quinta at the PGA West Golf Complex. The mountains are nestled against the course and is able to be seen within the segment.

Now, La Quinta is quite close to the San Andreas Fault, that have companies who will often offer jeep tours of the fault line.

The city appreciates a solid tourism industry, particularly amid the cooler winter a very long time in which “snowbird” travelers arrive. There are 2 city restaurants that are owned by celebrities such as The Arnold Palmer Restaurant and Devane’s Old Town. Both of these restaurants are located within the La Quinta Village.

Singer Aubrey O’Day from Danity Kane, Actor Tyler Hilton, and golfer Anthony Kim all attended La Quinta High School and are former residents of La Quinta. It is also stated that Vanessa Marcil was born and raised in La Quinta however her official website states that she was born in Indio and that she attended Indio High School.

Colonel Mitchell Paige happened to be a Medal of Honor veteran during World War II, who lived within Palm Desert and La Quinta has a middle school that was named for him. Jeff Webb from the Kansas City Chiefs, who is a NFL football player attended La Quinta High School, although he lived within Indio. Oscar Lua who played for the New England Patriots is from La Quinta. James Dockery is a current NFL player, grew up in the area as well although he went to Palm Desert High School.

Baseball Player Scott Burcham for the Colorado Rockies, was born and raised within La Quinta. Not to mention that the band Yawning Man was formed in La Quinta. Andy Williams, a famous singer, TV personality, and crooner lived in La Quinta with his second wife Debbie besides having a house that was located within Branson, Missouri, which is where Moon River Theatre happened to be located. Dorothy Hamill, an Olympic ice figure skater had lived in La Quinta.

The founder of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard had a secret ranch which was located within La Quinta between 1978 to the 1980s. Jack Jones, the singer now resides in La Quinta.

There have been other famous seasonal residents such as Tony Robbins who stayed in La Quinta between the 1970s and the 1980s, then there was Captain and Tennille, many golfers such as Monte Sheinblum and Fred Couples, and the Nike founder and CEO Phil Knight and his Wife Penny Knight live within La Quinta.
