Originally, Canyon Lake stated out as being a planned community that was being developed by the Corona Land Company during 1968. It was during 1990 that Canyon Lake had become incorporated and the Railroad Canyon Dam happened to be built during 1927 and uses the San Jacinto River for water in the reservoir and that takes up about 384 acres and is made up of almost 15 miles of shore.
