Corona, California is a city that is located in Riverside County within the United States. It has a population of over 150,000 people.

Originally Corona was named South Riverside and was founded during the citrus boom of 1886 in the southern part of California. It was situated perfectly at the upper part of the Santa Ana River canyon, which was a huge and important pass through the Santa Ana Mountains. Corona was once the lemon capital of the whole world and there is a museum that is located in Corona that tells about the former role of the lemon in the local economy. The city name comes from the nickname Circle City and that is because of the unique layout of the streets, it has a standard grid formation that is enclosed within a circular Grand Boulevard, which is almost 3 miles around. Hiram Clay Kellogg is responsible for the street layout, who was a civil engineer from Anaheim, California and a big influence for the early development of Orange County.

The city of Corona was established by South Riverside Land and Water Company. The company incorporated in 1886 and the founding members were George L. Joy, Adolph Rimpau, R.B. Taylor, ex-governor of Iowa – Samuel Merrill and A.S. Garretson. This was originally a citrus growers’ company and it helped to purchase the land of Rancho La Sierra and Rancho Temescal grant and eventually they would lay out the colony of South Riverside. They eventually would gain the water rights to the Temescal Creek, Lee lake and many tributaries. Pipelines and dams were built to carry the water into Corona. Temescal Water Company was incorporated in 1889, and was able to supply water for South Riverside. This company managed to purchase all of the land that had water on it in the Temescal valley and would eventually begin to drill artesian wells.

Because Corona was originally part of San Bernardino County, they named the city South Riverside and It managed to gain its first post office in 1887. Then 1893, it became part of the new Riverside county. Just 3 years later in 1896, South Riverside would be renamed Corona for the circular grand boulevard, where the 1913, 1914, and 1916 international automobile races were held.

Corona, California has been popular among many celebrities who have been drawn to the upscale type areas as well as the more private areas unlike Los Angeles. Desi Arnaz spend most of his time at the ranch he owned with Lucille Ball and would often be seen playing golf at Cresta Verde Golf Course. After his divorce, he continued to live in Corona.

Corona was mainly an agricultural city that was dominated by ranches, dairy farms, and citrus orchards. Now it has become a large suburban area of Los Angeles, California.
